The process of building a concrete pool shell from A to Z. Episode #1. We'll walk through the construction stages and the progress of the work. We'll use the new pool we're building at the SOBI Country Club as an example.

The first stage of construction involves laying out the foundation for the pool shell, digging the pit, and then re-laying it out and preparing it for the crushed stone base.

What's important to know: When laying out the foundation, the most important thing at this stage is proper alignment, both horizontally and vertically. Vertical marks are often ignored, resulting in the pool shell being either the wrong depth or requiring landscape designers to correct the situation.

Before work begins, two plans are required: a master plan with the pool shell planted on the site with vertical marks, and a reinforced concrete pool shell plan that takes into account the concrete and crushed stone base.
