Even before the design of pools and the appearance of the first descriptions, technical specifications, and drawings, the type of pool—indoor or outdoor, sports or recreational, skimmer or overflow—is determined by the customer and designers. At this stage, the size, shape, depth, and finishing material of the pool are also determined.

As a rule, the design of skimmer pools assumes that these will be square or rectangular pools. This type is most suitable for small pools (up to 50 cubic meters). On the other hand, the overflow type is often chosen for sports, large public, or prestigious private facilities.

The design of skimmer pools involves connecting the bottom drain with the skimmers, which ensures the cleaning of the dirtiest upper layers of water as well as the lower layers since heavy pollutants settle on the bottom. The system works in such a way that one-third of the water volume passes through the bottom drain and two-thirds through the skimmer. The number of bottom drains and skimmers must match (1 bottom drain – 1 skimmer).

Maintaining the water level in skimmer pools is done automatically with a float valve. The water undergoes filtration, heating, and disinfection, after which it returns to the pool through the nozzles opposite the skimmer. This ensures an even flow of water from one side of the pool basin to the other.

A skimmer pool is the choice for those on a budget, as this type of pool is usually 30 percent cheaper than an overflow pool. It is also ideal for those who do not need a large artificial reservoir. The design of a skimmer pool is simpler than that of an overflow pool, so its design requires less effort and time. However, despite this, the designers’ approach to developing a skimmer pool project will not be careless or superficial.
