Designing overflow pools
Overflow pools involve more complex and labor-intensive construction. They can be made from both concrete and polypropylene, but due to the complexity, the pool is typically constructed with a reinforced concrete basin. Consequently, the design of overflow pools also requires a professional and serious approach. The main technical challenge is organizing a special room that should be located in the basement or other places, typically below the water level. This is due to the overflow pool technology, which involves taking water for filtration from the overflow tank, where it flows by gravity from the gutter. The area of the auxiliary room should be calculated so that it can accommodate a tank with a volume of 5 to 10 percent of the total pool water volume.
Optimal water purification and even mixing are ensured by circulation. The top layer of water constantly flows over the edge of the overflow pool into a special overflow gutter that surrounds the basin along its entire perimeter, then it flows into the storage tank. After that, the filtered water is returned to the pool through jets located at the bottom. If the pool room has limited space, the overflow gutter can be placed on one side of the basin.
The design of an overflow pool may include the placement of jets in the pool walls, but bottom jets are more effective for water circulation, as the filtered water evenly fills pools of any geometric shape.
Around the perimeter of the overflow pool is a collection gutter covered with an overflow grid. The overflow grid can be made of plastic in any color, which is the simplest option. Alternatively, a stone or stainless steel overflow grid can be used. Recently, "slot" pools have become fashionable. In this case, the overflow channel is covered with border elements that create a slot for water intake.
